Boys: Sam Webber, Mt. Blue wrestling

The beat goes on for last year’s Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference and Class A state champion on the 125-pound wrestling class. Five pounds heavier this winter, Webber is well qualified to hoist more postseason hardware.

Webber rolled to the KVAC 130-pound title Saturday with a 13-5 decision over Drew Marshall of Mt. Ararat. He was one of only three Mt. Blue wrestlers to finish among the final four in the meet at Morse High School. Gary Theriault (second at 125) and Sean Kelly (third at 140) joined Webber in the semifinals.

Girls: Maggie Corrigan, Gray-New Gloucester skiing

Corrigan was one of only two female skiers representing Gray-New Gloucester at the Western Maine ski championships, but that didn’t stop the sophomore from making tracks.

With the fastest time in both runs, Corrigan won the giant slalom title by 1½ seconds over Amy Tragert of Lake Region. Corrigan clocked a combined 1 minute, 7.79 seconds.

Although she also blistered the field in the second slalom run, Corrigan couldn’t quite pull off the sweep. Her total time of 1:41.86 was a whisker off the winning pace set by Lauren Stackhouse of Yarmouth.
