Yeaton family

STRONG — The 49th annual descendants of Norman and Verna Yeaton family reunion was held on July 11 at the Strong American Legion Hall. The business meeting was called to order by President Lawrence E. Yeaton of Farmington.The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted.

The following were nominated and voted in to office for the upcoming year: Lawrence E.Yeaton of Farmington, the last of eight children, president; S. Niles Yeaton of Strong, vice president; Lauralee T. Fletcher of New Vineyard, secretary/treasurer; Carmalene Yeaton Valliere of North New Portland, scrapbook keeper Carolyn Yeaton Preece of Bangor, genealogy; Dawnelle Yeaton Ventry of Phippsburg, head of dinner.

A time of reconnecting with family was held from 10 a.m. until after 3:30 p.m. Family members came from as far away as California. There was a potluck dinner, business meeting, a raffle drawing and a family auction of some treasured items.

In 1958, the Yeaton brothers held a meeting at the East Wilton Fire Station to organize the reunion. The first official reunion was held in 1959 at the Booster’s Park near the Fairbanks bridge in Farmington. The 1998 reunion had to be canceled because of a medical issue of the host family, making next year, 2010, the 50th reunion.

A committee was chosen to make plans for the upcoming event. The members are S. Niles Yeaton, Darlene Yeaton-Nelson, Lauralee T. Fletcher, Carmalene Yeaton Velliere, Anne Yeaton Beisaw, Carolyn Yeaton Preece, Carlene Yeaton Davenport and Brent Smith.
