BANGOR — The Trump Administration has appointed Dave Lavway as the new state executive director (SED) for the USDA Maine Farm Service Agency (FSA). Lavway joined the Maine FSA team on Oct. 30.
Lavway has an extensive background in agriculture and administration, including recent deputy commissioner positions with the state for the Departments of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry and Administrative and Financial Services. He also served as executive director of the Maine Potato Board and director of government relations for the National Potato Council. From 2001 to 2009, Lavway served as state executive director of the Maine Farm Service Agency.
Lavway is a graduate of the University of Maine and served on the university’s board of visitors. He is a founding member of the Agriculture Council of Maine where he served as president and vice president. He also served on the board of the Northern Maine Fair Association and is a past member and chairman of the Northern Maine Community College Advisory Committee. Lavway is a native of Washburn, but now resides in Glenburn with his wife, Joanne.
The Farm Service Agency serves farmers, ranchers and agricultural partners through the delivery of effective, efficient agricultural programs.
