PORTLAND – Freshmen Katie Martin dominated the paint with 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead Centarl Maine Community College to a 74-48 win over Hesser College Sunday.

CMCC built a 13-point lead in the first half, then pulled away behind Martin and a season-high 16 points from Tiffany Gurney. Brittany Salley added 11 points for the Mustangs (4-2). Katie Edwards paced Hesser (2-4) with 10 points.

USM 62, UMF 41

FARMINGTON – Junior forward Stacey Kent scored a game-high 13 points to lead theUniversity of Southern Maine to a 62-41 win over the University of Maine Farmington in the championship game of the 2007 UMaine Farmington Women’s Basketball Tip-Off Classic Sunday.

Southern Maine forced UMaine Farmington into 23 turnovers and held the Beavers (1-1) to 26.5 percent shooting (13-for-49) to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Holy Cross 79, Maine 50

ORONO – Briana McFadden scored 19 points as Holy Cross defeated the University of Maine on Sunday.

Holy Cross raced out to an 18-7 lead and the Black Bears, who shot 29.5 percent from the floor, never got than 18-9.

Colleen Kilmurray led Maine with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Brittany Boser and Kristin Baker each chipped in with 12. The Black Bears dipped to 1-2 while Holy Cross improved to 1-2.

Hesser 77, CMCC 51

PORTLAND – Cam Angell scored 14 points, but it wasn’t enough as Hesser tripped-up Central Maine Community College, 77-51 Sunday.

David Labonte chipped in with 10 for CMCC (5-3). Heser improved to 7-1.

UMA 66, Vermont Tech 59

RANDOLPH, Vt. – Deon Cheers scored a game-high 22 points as UMaine-Augusta knocked off Vermont Tech, 66-59 Sunday night. UMA (4-3) bounced back from a 31-27 deficit in the second half behind Cheers and Chad Gray (14 points). Justin Wilson led Vermont Tech (2-2) with 14 points.
