STANDISH – Saint Joseph’s College head basketball coach Rob Sanicola announced that Tony DiBiase has become an assistant coach for the Monks.
DiBiase joins the staff after coaching high school basketball in Maine for over 30 years. He has coached boys’ varsity teams at Machias, Noble, Gorham, Portland and South Portland high schools. During this time, he has obtained a career record of 392 wins. DiBiase is currently a physical education teacher at South Portland High School. While coaching the Red Riots, he compiled a record of 211 wins – the most in South Portland history.
Kowalczyk earns NAC soccer laurels
FARMINGTON – University of Maine at Farmington senior netminder Kerry Kowalczyk was named the North Atlantic Conference Co-Women’s Soccer Player of the Year. Kowalczyk – who shared the award with Lesley’s Jodi Fralick – led the conference in save percentage (.957) and goals-against average (1.12).
Beavers place five on All-NAC teams
FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team placed five players on the North Atlantic Conference First and Second Teams. Senior midfielder Amanda Fortin, senior back Nicole Lyons, junior back Erika Lucas and junior goalkeeper Kaeleigh Barker received All-NAC First Team honors. Fortin scored six goals and assisted on a pair in eight conference games. Lyons and Lucas led a defense that allowed only two goals in NAC play.
O’Brien, Dube earn NAC accolades
FARMINGTON – University of Maine at Farmington junior middle hitter Danielle O’Brien was named to the North Atlantic Conference Women’s Volleyball. O’Brien collected 80 kills, 55 digs and 11 total blocks in eight conference games.
Senior middle hitter Meagan Dube of Lewiston was selected for the All-NAC Second Team. Dube – an All-NAC Second Team choice last season – notched 67 kills, 33 digs and nine total blocks in conference play.
