St. Dom’s is going to the big dance, thanks to a stellar round from its top golfer at Willowdale Country Club on Wednesday.
Richard Paradis fired a 75 to lead the Saints to a 23-stroke win over North Yarmouth Academy in the Western Maine Conference’s two-day state qualifying tournament.
Greg Labonte carded an 85 for the Saints, who advance to the state team tournament at Natanis Golf Club this Saturday
Individually, Paradis will also play the following Saturday for the state individual title.
In Class B, Poland had a gaggle of golfers qualify for the state individual tournament, including Justin Woodbrey (79), Shelby Carlson (97) and Jess Chinnock (106).
Cape Elizabeth, York and Falmouth qualified their teams for play this weekend, as did NYA in Class C.
Gray-New Gloucester, the lone Class A school in the WMC, earned an automatic berth.
In the Mountain Valley Conference on Wednesday, Mountain Valley High School qualified for the state Class B team tournament with a team total 349 at Natanis. Tim Labrecque, Ernie Matthews and Adam Bedard also qualified for the individual tournament next week.
In Class C, Telstar eked out a two-stroke win over Winthrop to earn the MVC crown, and Wiscasset was right behind, just three off of Winthrop.
Andy Emery of Winthrop, Kyle Maines of Telstar, Moe Beaulieau of Monmouth and Josh Tainter of Livermore Falls all qualified for the individual tournament.
