STRONG — A local man was killed when he crashed his motorcycle near his home early Monday, according to Maine State Police.

The body of Carl Chadbourne, 47, and his Harley-Davidson motorcycle were found by his brother between 5 and 5:30 p.m., said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Police believe Chadbourne left his home at about 2:45 a.m. Monday, said Trooper Scott Stevens, who investigated the accident. When Chadbourne didn’t return, his family went looking for him. Chadbourne’s brother found his body Monday evening near his motorcycle.

Stevens said Chadbourne probably lost control of his bike while rounding a corner. He apparently went over an embankment and ended up in a stream about 40 feet from the road. Chadbourne wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Stevens said.

The crash took place about 2 miles from Chadbourne’s home, according to McCausland.
