RUMFORD – Lauren LePage started the game with a goal and then added three assists as Mountain Valley utilized a strong attack in a 6-0 victory over Georges Valley.
The Homecoming game was played in the rain on Hosmer Field, but it certainly didn’t deter the Falcons.
“We’ve been working on our offense,” coach Melissa Forbes said. “Everyone has to shoot the ball when it gets in the circle. I was very pleased with our passing today, and Lauren LePage is coming into her own.”
Mountain Valley went on the attack early and put the ball in the crease. It bounced out to LePage, who was setup on the left post. Georges Valley goalie Samantha Buchanan was unable to slide over and LePage had an open shot 2:45 into the game.
“We knew what we had to do today,” LePage said. “That was to go out and get the job done, and I was pleased with the team’s performance.”
The Falcons controlled much of the action, receiving support from midfielders Amanda Gallant and Katlin Drury. The tandem hustled after loose balls and hit long drives. The Falcons led 1-0 at halftime.
Forward Stephanie Beadle scored from in close and Katie Doucette tallied the first of her two goals at 21:08 of the second half.
“The field was slick,” Beadle said. “I was surprised that I didn’t fall, but our goalie Kim Clark had a little trouble with her footing because she was in a mud hole. We need to win out now if we are going to make the playoffs.”
Georges Valley was held without a shot until midway through the second half. Katyn Robbins fired two shots, but Clark rushed out and kicked the ball away. The Falcons kept sticks on the ground, to stop the Bucaneers from advancing
Doucette, Gallant and freshman Shawnee Akers also scored.
