LEWISTON – Bessey Motors got a boost from two solid pitching performances to take both games of an American Legion doubleheader, 12-1 and 4-0, over Gayton Post at Franklin Pasture on Friday.

Ben Goodall powered Bessey in the first game, hurling a two-hitter from the mound and helping his own cause at the plate. Hitting third in the lineup, Goodall had three hits, including a double and a solo home run in the third inning. Russell Estes also had three hits and a pair of doubles as Bessey knocked out 14 hits in the game off three Gayton pitchers. Chad Guimond took the loss, and Luke Potter had a double for Gayton.

Travis Fillebrown took the ball for Bessey in the second game, pitching out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning and scattering seven hits in seven shutout innings. Thomas Dyke and Mike Fontaine each had three hits for Gayton, but could not push a run across home plate. Potter was tagged with the loss despite yielding only five hits.
