FARMINGTON – Megan Cyr and Karen Sirois each scored 12 points as the University of Maine at Farmington women’s basketball team downed visiting Husson 65-44 Wednesday.
The Beavers hit seven of their first 10 shots in the game and built a 34-17 lead by the half. Kari Simpson added 10 points and pulled down six rebounds for UMF (18-3), and Sirois chipped in with five assists.
Stephanie Noyes had 11 points for the Braves (12-9), and Annie McIntosh added 10 points. Jodie Merchant grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
UMA 75, Unity 65
AUGUSTA – Eric Collins poured in 20 points Wednesday evening to lead the University of Maine at Augusta to a 75-65 victory over Unity in mens’ hoops action.
Jon Hill chipped in for UMA (2-14) with 17 points, while Nick Hanson tallied 15 and Orrin Bimpson added 12.
Unity was paced by Seth Kinsella with a game-high 28 point performance, while Nathan Kelly netted 13 and Bruce Currie added 10. UMA jumped out to a 38-29 lead in the first half and cruised home to a comfortable win.
Maine Maritime 95, Thomas 81
WATERVILLE – Junior Alyssa Burns poured in 28 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to propel Maine Maritime Academy to a 95-81 victory over Thomas.
Michelle Gott registered a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Caitlyn Grant had 11 and nine assists for the Mariners (13-8).
The Terriers (17-3) were led by freshman Toby Martin with 26 points. Amy Miles added 15 points, and Talia Mondalton drained four 3-pointers for 12 points.
Men’s basketball
Husson 74, UMF 60
FARMINGTON – Tyler Muzzy knocked down a game-high 21 points, including three-of-five shooting from behind the 3-point line, as Husson defeated the University of Maine at Farmington 74-60 in a NAC conference tilt.
Muzzy also grabbed eight rebounds. Phil White added 17 points, and Jason Harvey had 14 for the Braves (13-8).
UMF (9-12) twice cut Husson’s lead to five points in the second half, but could draw no closer.
Isaac Hutchinson paced the Beavers with 12 points, Matt St. John added 10 more, and Travis Magnusson dished out 10 assists to go with eight points.
