LEICESTER, Mass. – Jodie Welch scored twice in the first 10 minutes of action to point the University of Maine at Farmington women’s soccer team (10-4-3 overall, 9-1-2 NAC) to a 6-0 win over Becker on Sunday.
Welch scored an unassisted goal at the 7:55 mark and then delivered on a feed from Heidi Parker just over a minute later (8:56) for her team-leading 18th goal of the season. Olivia Irons, Bailly Hovey, Susan Fitton and Mari Kimball added goals for the Beavers, who held a 27-1 edge in shots.
Elms 2, Thomas 0
HOLYOKE, Mass. – Elms College junior forward Chelsea Rose scored two second-half goals en route to a 2-0 win over Thomas College in Sunday’s North Atlantic Conference women’s soccer game.
Rose scored two minutes into the second half on a breakaway down the right side, and again on a powerful low shot just beyond 25 yards out with less than 15 minutes remaining in regulation.

UMF 4, Becker 1
LEICESTER, Mass. – Senior captain Joe Conway scored at the 37:38 mark and again at 58:22 to provide all the offense the University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer team needed in a 4-1 win over Becker College on Sunday
A day after tying Elms, 1-1, the Beavers (4-7-3 overall, 2-5-1 NAC) left little doubt of Sunday’s outcome, striking twice more after Becker cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal in the 63rd minute.
Andy Kox, who assisted on Conway’s second goal, scored at the 69:34 mark to increase UMF’s lead to 3-1, and Brian Broderick registered an unassisted goal at 83:05 to round out the scoring. Freshman Brian Lemont stopped 10 shots in goal to key the defense.
Elms 2, Thomas 1
HOLYOKE, Mass. – Elms College senior defender Darlington Abanulo netted his third goal of the season in the 85th minute, and freshman goalkeeper Nick Pellegrini stopped four shots to help carry the Blazers to a thrilling 2-1 win over Thomas College in Sunday’s North Atlantic Conference men’s soccer game at Roberts Sports Complex.
The Terriers jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead just 11:22 into the match on a goal by senior midfielder Sam McKenney that partially deflected off a defender.
Junior midfielder Patrick Hurst responded for the Blazers in the 27th minute with his first collegiate goal to tie the game at 1-1.
Women’s hockey
Buffalo State 3, USM 2
GORHAM – Freshman Nicole Muszynski scored a power-play goal with 8:33 remaining to snap a 2-2 tie and give the Buffalo State College Bengals a 3-2, come-from-behind women’s ice hockey victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference hockey game on Sunday afternoon.
Muszynski stuffed home a short pass from freshman Sara Sharp out of a scramble in front of USM junior goaltender Jen Arno to give the Bengals their only lead of the game.
Southern Maine, shut out in the first game of the series, got on the board first as senior Meaghan Barnaby lit the lamp at 4:31 of the opening period off assists from freshman Jen Amell and junior Lauren Pierce. The lead grew to 2-0 less than two minutes later when sophomore Amy McNally found the net behind Bennett off a nifty indirect pass from junior Jen Cordone.
Field hockey
USM 2, Western Connecticut State 0
GORHAM – Sophomore forward Lisa Henley and freshman forward Erica Brown each scored a goal to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 2-0 field hockey win over Little East Conference foe the Western Connecticut State Colonials on Sunday at Paula Hodgdon Field.
Both Henley and Brown recorded their first goals of the season as the Huskies snapped a four-game slide to improve to 6-10 overall and 5-4 in the LEC. With the loss, Western Connecticut slips to 1-11 on the season and remains winless in conference play at 0-10.
Henley struck first for the Huskies when she drove in a neatly placed pass from senior forward Kayla Vaughan 2:55 into the game.
Western N.E. 3, Thomas 0
WATERVILLE – The Thomas College women’s field hockey team (5-7) lost to Western New England College (16-3) 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference action on Sunday at Husson College.
Allison Jameson, Cori Eggert and Megan Cloutier scored for WNEC. Thomas goalie Jen Lane had nine saves in net.
With the win WNEC clinches the NAC regular season title with a 9-0 record. Thomas finishes 3-6 in the NAC.
