BETHEL – Liz Rosenberg started the scoring with a goal on a penalty kick to lead Telstar to a 3-0 triumph over Mountain Valley in a field hockey game on Saturday.
Telstar’s Josie Reiss scored the second goal on a pass from Lauren Conroy, then Chea Davis scored on a feed from Kayla Mills, making it 3-0.
Telstar (9-1) scored all three of its goals in the first half. Kim Clark stopped nine shots for Mountain Valley.
Cony 3, EL 0
AUBURN – Brittney O’Brien wasted no time scoring 2:38 into the game on a pass from Monica White as Cony defeated Edward Little 3-0 in a KVAC field hockey matchup on Saturday.
Four minutes later, Meagan Stiman made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal that went off a defender’s stick. The Rams’ last goal was scored with nine minutes left in the game when Brittany Ford found the back of the net unassisted.
Goaltender Natlie Fecteau stopped 12 shots to pick up the shutout for Cony (9-2). Mary Martin made 22 saves in net for the Eddies (4-7).
Greely 4, GNG 0
GRAY – Maryette Stuart started the scoring for Greely at the 22:06 mark unassisted to power Greely to a 4-0 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in field hockey action on Saturday.
Moreen Nickerson found the back of the net two minutes later on a pass from Amanda Black, who scored the third goal with 5:39 left in the first half. Greely’s Alisha Wilson ended the scoring with a goal at the 22:43 mark in the second half.
Goalkeeper Rebecca Stevenson made seven saves to record the shutout for Greely (7-1-2).
Soccer
Lake Region 6, Poland 0
POLAND – Amanda Higgins, Krysti Leach and Kate Callahan scored a goal apiece to lead Lake Region to a 6-0 triumph over Poland in girls’ soccer action on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Brianna Ebling made 10 saves in net for Lake Region to earn the shutout.
Monmouth 3, Boothbay 1
MONMOUTH – Jenn Lola scored a hat trick to lead Monmouth to a 3-1 win over Boothbay in MVC girls’ soccer action on Saturday.
Brittney Markowski put the Seawhawks on the board first with a goal at the 17:01 mark. Boothbay held on to the 1-0 lead through the midpoint.
Lola netted three unanswered goals through the second half for the Mustangs.
Amanda McFetridge made nine saves for Boothbay, while Cortney Barrett turned back four shots for Monmouth.
Hampden 4, Mt. Blue 0
HAMPDEN – Nori Francis-Mezger and Mikki Libbey combined for a pair of goals to carry Hampden to a 4-0 win over Mt. Blue in girls’ soccer action on Saturday.
The Broncos (7-2-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the half.
Stephanie Smith was the offensive force for the Cougars (3-4-2), collecting four shots on goal in the contest. Caitlin Scott made 10 saves for Mt. Blue, while Michelle Wells picked up the shutout victory with five stops for Hampden.
Hebron 2, CVA 0
HEBRON – Katherine Cole scored the first goal at the 24:59 mark unassisted to power Hebron to a 2-0 win against Carrabassett Valley in girls’ soccer.
Claire Cummings netted the second goal unassisted in the second half. Steph Roy stopped all six shots she faced to earn the shutout for Hebron (2-1-1).
