GARDINER – Kenny Maher scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as Leavitt defeated Gardiner 3-1 in KVAC soccer.
Maher took an overlap pass from Todd Berube in the corner and rifled the ball past Tiger keeper Kolby Peckham for the deciding margin. Maher added a second goal with 1:39 remaining, a long high shot over Peckham’s head from 25 yards out. Tyler Kenney also scored for the Hornets (1-8).
Mike Burdin headed in a cross 40 seconds into the game to give Gardiner (1-9) the early lead. Peckham had a busy night on the Gardiner goal line, finishing with 21 saves.
Kevin Mulherrin stopped nine shots for Leavitt.
Winthrop 2, Jay 1
WINTHROP – Tim Gingras scored a pair of goals to lead Winthrop to a 2-1 win over Jay.
Gingras scored the game-winner with 18:05 remaining after Ryan Phillips beat the defense and lobbed a cross in front of the net. Gingras got his head on the ball, which deflected off Tiger goalie Matt Roundy and the goal post before ending up in the net. Gingras’ first goal came with 34 seconds left in the first half.
Justin Jacques scored the lone goal for Jay (2-7-1). Roundy kept the Tigers close with 13 saves.
Mike Gingras had 11 saves for the Ramblers (2-6-2).
EL 2, Erskine 0
AUBURN – Mark St. Hilaire netted a pair of goals in a span of less than two minutes in the first half as Edward Little posted a 2-0 triumph over Erskine.
St. Hilaire scored the game-winning tally on a scramble in front of the goal mouth with 4:58 to play in the half, and then added an insurance score with 3:04 left, one-touching a through-ball from Bill Brewster from 12 yards out that beat Erskine keeper Levi Dennison.
Josh Mains stopped five shots for the clean slate in the net for the Red Eddies (7-2-1). Dennison made five saves for the Eagles (6-3-1).
Lewiston 2, Cony 1
LEWISTON – The Blue Devils (6-2-1) scored a pair of goals in the first half and made them stand up as Lewiston defeated Cony 1-0 in KVAC boys’ soccer action.
Marcel Rapp got the Devils on the board, taking a pass from Jake Theriault and luring Rams goalie Tyler Dan off his line before chipping the ball over the keeper’s head. Matt Cyr added a second goal on a long lob from 30 yards out that found the upper left corner of the goal.
Jason Lui scored on a free kick with 5:26 to play in the game, but Cony could not find net the equalizer.
Keenan White made three saves for Lewiston. Dan finished the game with seven saves for the Rams.
MCI 1, Oak Hill 0
PITTSFIELD – Mark Neace took advantage of a defensive miscue to score the game’s lone goal as MCI nipped Oak Hill 1-0 in KVAC boys’ soccer action Friday.
Neace took control of the ball on a cross play that the right fullback was unable to clear out of the Raiders’ zone. Tehran Randlett was credited with the assist.
The Raiders (3-7) had several chances, including hitting the cross bar twice, but failed to net the ball.
Goalie Michael Eaton, who was aided by a solid defense, made 15 stops for Oak Hill, including a couple of athletic saves.
Geo. Valley 6, Dirigo 0
DIXFIELD – Elisha Sprague scored a pair of goals to lead Georges Valley to a 6-0 blanking of Dirigo.
In a relatively quiet first half, the Buccaneers took a 1-0 lead on Sprague’s first of two goals in the contest.
Lenny Hall had 11 saves in goal for the Cougars, while Jake Hall prevented seven for Georges Valley for the win.
Wiscasset 3, Liv. Falls 0
LIVERMORE FALLS – Matt Hinkley scored a hat trick to carry Wiscasset to a 3-0 victory over Livermore Falls.
The Indians took a 2-0 lead into the half as Hinkley dominated the offense for Wiscasset.
The Andies failed to capitalize on the few scoring opportunities they had in the second half.
Zach Hartman had 12 saves for Wiscasset, while Derick Neal had 10 stops for Livermore Falls.
