LEWISTON – Sophomore Erin Chandler scored twice, including the game-winner with only 43.4 seconds remaining in regulation, to lead the Bates’ field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Trinity.
Trinity’s Kathleen Conlon scored the first goal of the game at 27:42 of in the first half.
Rhode Island 3, Maine 2
KINGSTON, RI – Jamie Adams scored two goals including the game-winning goal just 2:47 into overtime to give Rhode Island a 3-2 victory over the University of Maine.
The Black Bears (6-4) had a 2-1 lead in the second half until Rams’ forward Laura Hackenberger found the back of the net on assists from Adams and Lauren Lipski at the 67th minute.
Shaunessy Saucier scored both goals for the Black Bears.
UMF 9, Wheelock 0
FARMINGTON – Kristy Veazie scored three goals to lead University of Maine at Farmington to a dominating 9-0 win over Wheelock.
Kristen Chambers scored a goal and added a pair of assists for the Beavers (4-1), while Kristen Allen and Mary Sinclair each had a goal and an assist.
Men’s soccer
Bates 4, Trinity 1
LEWISTON – Terrence O’Connell scored a goal and added an assist as Bates defeated Trinity 4-1.
David Shear started the scoring for the Bobcats with a goal three minutes into the game on a feed from George Carr. Brent Morin scored on a pass from O’Connell, three minutes later Brendan Nangle scored unassisted on a breakaway, that gave Bates a 3-0 lead at halftime. The win marks the third straight for the Bobcats (3-1-1).
Freshman Matthew Miller scored the lone goal for Trinity (1-5).
Mt. Ida 3, UMF 2
FARMINGTON – Sehon Alfred found the back of the net on a pass from Arly Noel with 4:54 left in overtime to give Mt. Ida a 3-2 victory over University of Maine at Farmington.
Svetlin Ignatov scored the first goal for Mt. Ida and Noel scored on a penalty kick in the second half.
The Beavers got goals from Craig Cameron and Joe Conway.
Women’s Soccer
Bates 7, Trinity 1
LEWISTON – Kim Alexander scored a pair of goals to power Bates to a 7-1 victory over Trinity.
Jessie Gargiulo had an assist and scored off of a breakaway pass from Allison Emery for the Bobcats (4-1). Jen Marino and Amy Weberlin each scored their first collegiate goals for Bates.
Katherine O’Brien headed in a corner kick from Jessica Hansen for Trinity’s only goal of the game.
UMF 8, Mt. Ida 1
FARMINGTON – Julie Walters scored a pair of goals to propel University of Maine at Farmington to an 8-1 triumph over Mt. Ida.
Jodie Welch also netted two goals for the Beavers (4-2-1) on three shots, while Erin Campbell had a goal and an assist.
Jamie Hurd scored the only goal for Mt. Ida four minutes into the game.
Rhode Island 2, St. Joseph’s 1
PROVIDENCE, RI – Junior forward Erika Haaland headed in a corner kick from Krista MacKinnon in the 70th minute for the game-winning goal as Rhode Island escaped with a 2-1 victory over St. Joseph’s.
The Ram’s (6-2) drew first blood when Caitlin Gavin scored unassisted just 10 minutes into the game.
Danielle McLaughlin tied the game for St. Joseph’s on a pass from Jillian Leger, but that wasn’t enough for the Monks (4-3).
Bowdoin 2, Brandeis 1
BRUNSWICK – Danielle Chagnon scored the first goal of the game on a pass from Alison Chase with 14 seconds left in the first half to power Bowdoin to a 2-1 victory over Brandeis.
Bobbi Dennison gave the Polar Bears a 2-0 advantage at the 63:22 mark with an unassisted goal.
Lauren Gregor netted the only goal for Brandeis (4-2-1) with nine minutes left in regulation. Anna Shapell collected seven saves in net for Bowdoin (5-1).
