TURNER – After opening the season with a tough road loss, the Leavitt Hornets got their season back on track Friday night.

Senior quarterback Tyler Angell threw three touchdown passes in the first half to lead Leavitt to a dominating 53-0 victory over Old Town at Libbey Field.

The Hornets’ offense struck quick and often. Leavitt (1-1) scored on their first three possessions of the game. Angell hit wideout Corey Witham with an 18-yard pass on Leavitt’s opening drive.

“We were anxious to get back on the field,” said Leavitt coach Mike Hathaway. “Even though we played last week on Saturday, it was a long week for the kids.”

Angell completed 7-of-10 passes for 225 yards.

The Hornets scored two more times in the first period. Angell raced in from 13 yards out for the second touchdown, then threw a 35-yard TD pass to tight end Ben Boulay.

The Hornets continued the onslaught in the second quarter as Angell hooked up with Witham once again for a 71-yard catch and run touchdown. Freshman Tyler Green later scored on a 12-yard run to round out the first half scoring.

In the third quarter, Angell found Boulay for a 68-yard scoring toss. Witham scored on a 45-yard shuttle pass and Sophomore Jeff Newton added a TD run for the Hornets.

“It was good to play well for our home opener,” said Hathaway. “It was a good team effort.
