After a pair of overtime losses on the road, the Central Maine Shockers won their first game of the season with a 27-12 triumph over the Whaling City Clippers in the Shockers’ home opener Saturday.
The Shockers opened a 20-6 lead by halftime on a touchdown by Marvin Langley and two scoring throws by quarterback Steve Coleman to Jon McCabe and Nate Thibodeau.
The Clippers, from New Bedford, Mass., narrowed the gap by returning the second-half kickoff for a touchdown, but could not solve the Shockers’ defense. Langley closed the scoring with another touchdown run.
Central Maine travels to Woonsocket, R.I., next weekend before returning home Aug. 13 to face the Vermont Ice Storm.
