SOUTH PARIS – Former Oxford Hills standout Seth McAlister will be entering his sophomore year at Edinboro. McAlister redshirted his freshman season, which allowed him to gain experience and still have four years of NCAA eligibility remaining.

“It was easy for me to take care of myself,” McAlister said. “I feel that I was able to meet the demands created by college academics and wrestling. After a year of college, I’ve found things to be small and large. I have redefined my goals.”

McAlister was able to achieve success in both activities. He compiled a 7-5 record with six pins at 141-pounds in three open tournaments and earned a 3.24 GPA in the classroom.

“It was tough redshirting,” McAlister said. “I’d have a tournament one week and then go three weeks before the next one. I still had to practice every day, so it was difficult at times to stay positive.”

McAlister’s practice partner was Shawn Bunch, who was a finalist at the NCAA Div. I championships in March. Rosselli doesn’t believe that McAlister has reaped all the benefits that wrestling has to offer, but it depends on McAlister if he succeeds.

“I hope to do well next season,” McAlister said. “I’ll have an opportunity to earn a starting position, but in college everyone is talented. It’s not like in high school where you’re a standout. You find things changing week to week because you want to beat him or even get a takedown.”
