WILMINGTON, Vt. – Snocross racers from the northeast are smiling this week, heading to one of the favorite stops on the Rock Maple Racing schedule. Hundreds of riders from RMR’s Central and East divisions will converge on the Skowhegan State Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26-27.

Spectator gates will open at 8 a.m. both days, with racing scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Saturday’s card will consist of qualifying races for all divisions, while Sunday will feature LCQs and finals for all classes. Admission is just $12 per adult, per day, with weekend passes available for $20. Children under the age of 10 will be admitted free with a paying adult.

The Maine Antique & Vintage Snowmobile Association will have a display of interesting sleds. Prizes will be awarded in various categories, and fans can vote for the sled of their choice in the display area.

Last year in Skowhegan, Simon Belzile rode to victory in the Pro 440 and Pro Open finals, while fellow Canadian Danny Poirier claimed the Pro 600 class. In Semi-Pro action, local favorite Ryan Scripture of Hermon earned a victory in the 440 final. Tyler Webster and Shawn Nutt split the other two Semi-Pro finals.

When RMR returned to Skowhegan for a second appearance last March, Chad Luczynski held off Matt and Jason Boron to win the Pro 440 final. Chad also finished second to Belzile in the Pro 600 class, while Poirier chased Belzile across the finish line in the Pro Open final. Nick Kruger of Granville, NY, completed a comeback from injuries sustained earlier in the season with a convincing win in the Semi-Pro 600 class.

Dean Stevens of Oakland, another local favorite, put on a show for the home-state fans, winning the Amsoil Pro Vet final over brothers Mike and Joe Lemieux. And Stevens wasn’t the only Maine native to earn a victory in Skowhegan. Hillary Hewitt of Newcastle and Hartland’s Amy Preble notched wins in the Womens’ classes.
