BRUNSWICK — Eileen Flaherty notched a game high 19 points to lift Bowdoin to a 59-45 win over Trinity.

Erika Nickerson played a key supporting role for Bowdoin (22-2) with 13 points. Justine Pouravelis finished with seven points and nine rebounds.

Mary Lennick and Catherine Maher each scored nine points for Trinity (9-14).

St. Joseph’s 47, UMPI 45

STANDISH — Val Dumais scored 12 points and pulled down 10 boards as St. Joseph’s squeezed past the UMaine-Presque Isle 47-45.

Laura Pelkey added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Monks (12-11) in the winning effort, while Kaylin Reguls finished with eight points and five rebounds. UMPI (7-13) was led by Sarah Beasley with a game high 16 points and seven boards.

UMF 86, Johnson State 49

FARMINGTON — Kate LaHaye led all scorers with 18 points as UMF cruised to an easy 86-49 victory over Johnson State.

Sophia Stanley added 12 points for UMF (19-6), while Melissa Sawyer finished nine points and 11 rebounds.

Maine 56, Hartford 51

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Missy Traversi scored a team-high 16 points to lead Maine to a 56-51 victory over Hartford in a pivotal battle for first place in America East.

The Hawks (16-7) jumped out to a four-point lead seven minutes into the game, before Maine scored nine unanswered points to pull ahead. The Black Bears (16-8) kept the lead and went into the half on top 28-25.

USM 76, UMD 54

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. — Junior guards Tiffany Jones and Katie Frost each scored 13 points to lead Southern Maine to a 76-54 win over UMass-Dartmouth.

Jones finished with four assists, four steals and four rebounds to help secure the victory for the Huskies (23-2) while Katie Sibley, Ashley Marble and Lisa Welch each added eight points.

Maine Maritime 71, Elms 53

CASTINE – Alyssa Burns scored 23 points to lead Maine Maritime to a 71-53 win over Elms College.

St. Joseph’s 73, UMPI 61

STANDISH — Senior Jon Pratt scored 21 of his game high 30 points in the second half to lead St. Joseph’s to a 73-61 victory over the University of Maine Presque Isle on Saturday.

The Monks (12-10) found themselves down 39-31. Steve Monteiro finished with 15 points and eight rebounds for St. Joseph’s, while Noah LaRoche added 10 points.

UMF 90, Johnson State 47

FARMINGTON — Sean Fry scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead UMF to a 90-47 win over Johnson State.

Luke Nielsen added 11 points and eight boards for UMF (18-6), while Trafton Teague added 10 points.

UMD 95, USM 61

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Chris Lapriore tossed in 21 points to lead the UMass-Dartmouth in a 95-61 rout over Southern Maine.

Josh Daniels recorded a team-high 15 points for Southern Maine.

Maine 61, Hartford 58

ORONO – Kevin Reed had a game-high 17 points and Mark Flavin added 14, 12 in the second half, to lead Maine past Hartford 61-58 Saturday.

Aaron Cook paced Hartford (7-18, 3-13 America East) with 14 points.

Hartford led by as much as 10 in the first and 30-24 at the half. But Maine (12-13, 7-9) scored the first six points in the second to close the gap.

Cook put Hartford up 49-48 with a pair of free throws with 3:43 left, but the lead changed hands three times over the next minute. Maine led by two after a 3 from Reed, but Charles Ford had two free throws to tie the score at 53-53 with 2:24 left.

Maine took the lead for good on a 3 from Flavin. Hartford cut the deficit to one on a layup by Trevor Goode. Goode was fouled, but missed the tying free throw. David Ruffin missed a tying 3 in the final seconds.

Joe Campbell and Chris Markwood had 13 and 10 points for Maine. Ruffin and Goode each had 13 for Hartford.

Hockey
Maine 6, Providence 2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Josh Soares scored two goals while Michel Leveille had a goal and two assists as Maine beat Providence 6-2 on Saturday night.

The Friars (8-19-4, 3-14-4 Hockey East) shocked the Black Bears by taking a 1-0 lead just 22 seconds into the game when Colin McDonald fired a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle past a screened Jimmy Howard.

But Maine (15-10-6, 10-5-4) took control with three second-period goals. Soares tied it at 3:52 and Greg Moore put the Black Bears ahead to stay with a power-play goal at 6:15. Brent Shepheard’s goal at 13:03 made it 3-1 after two.

The Friars pulled within 3-2 on Jon Rheault’s goal at 1:40 of the third, but a power-play goal by Soares just 21 seconds later restored the two-goal margin. Leveille and John Ronan rounded out the scoring.

Southern Maine 9, Castleton 1

GORHAM — Sophomore Mike Stevens netted a pair of goals for the University of Southern Maine as they defeated Castleton State 9-1 in college hockey action Saturday.

USM (14-9-2) also got goals from Bobby Siers, James LeBlanc, Ryan Wright, Mark Carragher, Neil Kelleher and Erik Kent in the victory. Goaltender Tyler Ravlo notched 16 saves on 17 shots for the win.

Castleton (0-24) got their lone goal from Anthony Hathaway. Castleton goaltender Chad Long had a busy game, recording 41 saves while dealing with 50 shots on net.

Amherst 4, Bowdoin 2

AMHERST, Mass. — Roy Mabrey scored a goal and recorded an assist for Amherst as they defeated Bowdoin 4-2 in college hockey play Saturday.

Kyle Schoppel, Brandon Zangel and Bill Jenkins each added a goal for Amherst (13-9-2) in the win. Amherst goaltender Josh Fillman notched 23 saves on 25 shots for the win.

Adam Dann and Nate Riddell scored a goal apiece for Bowdoin (15-5-3) in the losing effort. Bowdoin goalie George Papachristopoulous recorded 33 saves on 37 shots in the loss.

Colby 3, Hamilton 3

CLINTON, N.Y. — Hamilton College’s Mike Hayes scored a power play goal with 5:38 left in the third period and the Continentals ended the regular season with a 3-3 tie against visiting Colby College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game Saturday.

The Mules (14-7-2) will be the third seed in the conference tournament and will host Williams College next Saturday in a quarterfinal game. Joel Morash led Colby with two goals while Nick Bayley added his 16th game of the season. Goaltender Chris Ries notched 21 saves on 24 shots.

Hamilton (9-11-4) also got goals from Casey Deak and Gus Katsuras while John Gordon provided two assists on the game. Goalkeeper Gabe Tash finished with 33 saves while dealing with 36 shots on net.
