RUMFORD — Cephus R. Irish, 84, of Highland Terrace in Mexico, passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, at Rumford Community Home following a long illness, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Turner on April 8, 1933, a son of Cephus E. and Cecile (Rondau) Irish.

Cephus was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1952.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Cephus was employed with the Rumford paper mill for 43 years and was a member of the 25- and 40-year clubs.

He was a member of the American Legion.

Cephus grew up at Worthley Pond, was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed outdoor activities. In his later years, he enjoyed woodworking and furniture building for family members.

Surviving are his companion, Phyllis Chiasson, of Mexico; his children, Andrew Irish and wife, Kathy of Peru, Jeffrey Irish and wife, Rhonda of Jay; a sister, Lovina Bryant of East Wilton; six grandchildren, Jason Irish, Nicole Knowles, Allyson McCarty, Benjamin Irish, Shannon Coffin and Matthew Irish; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother-in-law, William Bryant.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pinnacle Health and Rehab for the wonderful care given to Cephus.
