MILLINOCKET – State officials are making changes in their reservation policy for camp sites at Baxter State Park.
The new policy represents an effort to ensure that reservations are available to a broad range of people with a variety of opportunities to obtain those reservations.
Summer reservations will become available on Jan. 18, with a single, modified traditional opening day.
The next day begins a two-year trial of the new “rolling reservation system.”
On Tuesday, Jan. 18, walk-in customers only can make two reservations for any campground for any date during the summer camping season.
The new system will feature rolling reservations, made four months in advance. This is a day-by-day system, so reservations starting June 27 will not be processed until Feb. 27.
If a camper wants to make a reservation for July 15, the earliest he/she could do so is on March 15.
Baxter State Park will continue to accept reservations in two ways: walk-in or mail-in. For more information, contact the reservations office at 207-723-5140.
