ORONO – As Auburn native and former St. Dom’s forward Joey Dumais spoke with the media, Maine’s Greg Moore surfaced from his locker room following Sunday’s game between the University of Maine and Quinnipiac University

“I want to listen to this,” said Moore. “Go ahead.”

The two started to laugh and Moore, after pausing briefly, disappeared into the tunnel leading to the ice surface.

“It’s always great to come up here,” said Dumais. “Anytime you can play hockey with your old friends, it’s great.”

Derek Damon also emerged from the Maine locker room. The three had been linemates for the Saints on the team’s 1999 state championship team.

“It’s great to see him,” said Damon. “We all had a lot of special times back at St. Dom’s. It’s exciting to see how much he’s grown in the last two years, to see him become an elite player like he is.”

Moore and Dumais took to the ice in Lewiston during the holiday break for a St. Dom’s alumni game. That meeting was a bit more friendly than Sunday’s matchup.

“I wasn’t trying to take his head off,” said Moore. “I was just trying to toss him around a bit. This was probably the most fun I’ve had playing out there all year.”

Dumais, meanwhile, played what will probably be his final game at Alfond Arena on Sunday, and had his three-game, point-scoring streak snapped.

“I’m not that worried about it,” said Dumais. “I know I am not asked to score. My role here is to be an excitement-building player, and that’s fine with me.”

Some things just haven’t changed.
