AUBURN – Kelsey Pettengill picked up a corner kick by Olivia Welch 10 minutes into the first half to propel Edward Little to a 2-0 win over Mt. Blue in a KVAC girls’ soccer game Friday.
Elizabeth Esponnette added a second-half, unassisted goal to put the game out of reach as the Red Eddies (8-3-1) used a stifling defense to shut the Cougars down.
Brittany French needed only one save to register the shutout.
Caitlin Scott turned back eight shots for the Cougars.
Mt. Abram 3, Madison 0
SALEM – Liz Kankainen scored an unassisted goal with 13:14 left in the first half to lift Mt. Abram to a 3-0 win over Madison in girls’ soccer action Friday afternoon.
Kankainen found the back of the net from the 18, drilling the ball past the outstretched arms of the Bulldogs’ (3-8-1) keeper Ashley Marandola (14 saves) for the only score the Roadrunners (7-3-2) would need to register the victory.
Heather Hayes and Stephanie Coburn added a goal apiece in the first half to put the game out of reach.
Brianna Wilkins recorded one save in the win.
Greenville 2, Rangeley 1
RANGELEY – Hannah Breton found the back of the net with 2:47 left in the game to give Greenville a 2-1 win over Rangeley Friday. Emily Fowle scored the first goal for Greenville (10-1).
Sarah Schrader netted the only goal for Rangeley (5-5).
Beth Bartley made five saves to notch the win for Greenville.
Wells 6, Poland 0
POLAND – Crystal Withem netted a pair on goals to lead Wells to a 6-0 victory over Poland in girls’ soccer Friday.
Hannah Knight also found the back of the net twice for the Warriors (3-8-1).
Tatyana Wolterbeek had 12 saves for Wells.
Megan Lawrence and Loura Beisswanger also added a goal apiece.
Lewiston 2, Cony 1
AUGUSTA – Ali Morin had two hard strikes from on top of the box to propel Lewiston to a 2-1 come-from-behind win in KVAC girls’ soccer action Friday.
The Rams (5-5-2) scored first on a Margaret Rende goal for a 1-0 lead at the half.
The Blue Devils (10-3) ratcheted up the momentum in the second half as Morin converted relays from Tracy Bradley and Laura Martel from 18 yards out into the back of the net for the win.
Dirigo 2, Lisbon 1
LISBON – Danielle Glover found the back of the net at 37:03 of the second half to lift Dirigo to a 2-1 win over MVC rival Lisbon in soccer play Friday afternoon.
Brooke Weston opened the scoring on an unassisted goal for the Cougars (11-0-2) with 29:31 left in the first half, setting the stage for Glover’s game-winner.
Soliel Mathieu knotted the score at 1-all with 34:05 left in the first half as the Greyhounds (7-5-1) avoided the shutout.
Christina Chow turned back six shots to register the win, while Gabrielle Mathieu made 17 saves.
Buckfield 1, GPC 1
BUCKFIELD – Candace Allen scored the game-tying goal in the second half for Buckfield as the Bucks and Greater Portland Christian played to a 1-1 tie on Friday.
Caitlyn Fillmore netted the lone goal for Greater Portland Christian. Kara Sarver made 21 saves for the Lions.
Shayna Shackford had 13 stops for Buckfield (7-4-1).
Winthrop 1, Mountain Valley 0
RUMFORD – Amanda Garewood scored an unassisted goal at 29:32 of the first half to lead Winthrop to a 1-0 win over Mountain Valley in MVC soccer Friday.
Katie Pushard needed six saves to register the shutout for the Ramblers (7-6).
Ashley Pelletier made 10 saves for the Falcons (4-8-1).
Maranacook 6, Camden 0
CAMDEN – Toby Martin recorded a pair of goals and an assist as Maranacook sailed to a 6-0 win over Camden in KVAC girls’ soccer action Friday.
Allison Meyer initiated the scoring for the Black Bears (10-1-1) and had a pair of assists on the next two goals.
Maranacook led 2-0 at the half.
Beth Heron had 17 saves in net for the Windjammers (8-3-1), while Melissa Piper deflected three shots for Maranacook.
Field hockey
Telstar 3, Hall-Dale 2
FARMINGDALE – Bailey Davis took a pass from Kayla Mills with four seconds remaining in double overtime and deposited it in the lower right hand corner of the net to send Telstar to a 3-2 win over Hall-Dale in MVC field hockey action Friday afternoon.
Mallory Brown chipped in with a goal and an assist while Jessie Farington rounded out the Rebels’ (11-1-1) scoring with a second-half goal.
Stephanie Tripp and Heather Gionet combined for nine saves in the win.
The Bulldogs (5-6) were paced by Hannah Rau and Katie Bell who each tallied a goal.
Jay 2, Dirigo 1
DIXFIELD – Jaclyn Lautz scored the game-winning goal with five minutes left in regulation to lift Jay to a 2-1 win over Dirigo in MVC field hockey play Friday.
The Tigers (5-9) took the early lead as Emily Cloutier scored an unassisted goal in the first half.
Kaylie DiMillo notched the win, stopping 18 shots.
The Cougars’ (2-10) lone goal came as Sarah Oakes converted a pass from Holly Knight to avoid the shutout.
Dani Tompkins made 26 saves in the loss.
NYA 2, St. Dom’s 0
NORTH YARMOUTH – Erin Withman scored an unassisted goal at 9:38 of the first half for the only goal North Yarmouth Academy would need as the Panthers handed St. Dom’s a 2-0 setback in WMC field hockey action Friday.
Lize Werley Prieto added an unassisted insurance goal in the second half to put the game out of reach.
St. Dom’s Elizabeth Bennett and NYA’s Sarah Holden each made a pair of saves.
Mt. Blue 1, Messalonskee 0
FARMINGTON – Casey Kidd converted a pass from Hedi Judkins to send Mt. Blue to a 1-0 win over Messalonskee in KVAC field hockey action Friday. Ashley Lewia made nine saves to register the win. Beth Ridley turned back 15 shots in the loss.
Winthrop 5, Livermore Falls 2
WINTHROP – Nicole Emery scored a hat trick as Winthrop remained unbeaten with a 5-2 win against Livermore Falls on Friday. Elyse Cole and Sarah Cook also scored for the Ramblers (12-0-1). Taryn Flagg and Tricia Richard netted the two goals for Livermore Falls (9-4).
Lisbon 3, Mountain Valley 2
LISBON – Erica Merritt netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as Lisbon edged Mountain Valley 3-2 in MVC field hockey action Friday.
The Greyhounds (10-4) dominated the offense with 34 shots, while the Falcons (3-11) managed only four.
Mountain Valley led 2-1 at the half. Lisbon goalie Beth Williams had one save, while Bethany Tinswell frantically turned back 21 shots in the loss.
Boys’ soccer
Mt. Blue 1, EL 0
FARMINGTON – Zach Frechette scored on a through pass by Alex LaPage with 20 minutes left in the game as Mt. Blue defeated Edward Little 1-0 in boys’ soccer Friday.
Cougar (4-6-2) goalie Joe French made 17 saves for the shutout. B.J. Levasseur had nine stops for the Red Eddies (6-4-2).
Ox. Hills 2, Lawrence 1
SOUTH PARIS – Willy Libby used a cross pass from Jesse Strauss and scored on a head shot from the deep left corner one minute into the overtime period as Oxford Hills defeated Lawrence 2-1 in boys’ soccer Friday.
Libby also scored in the first half which gave the Vikings (4-7-1) a 1-0 lead at half. Josh Saunders scored the game-tying goal for Lawrence (1-8-3).
