OXFORD – There was no job that was too big – or too small – at Oxford Plains Speedway for Kenny Williams.

The beloved track worker, whose tenure at the track dated back to when Bob Bahre owned it, died last winter. While his presence at the track is missed, he hasn’t been forgotten. Friends of Williams and the track will honor him Thursday night with the Kenny Williams Memorial Strictly Stock 100.

“It is an incredible testament to Kenny that his friends have come together to give our Strictly Stock competitors this incredible race,” speedway owner Bill Ryan said in a statement. “We expect to draw tons of Strictly Stock cars and expect a very exciting race for our fans.”

The prize money will be at levels rarely seen in Strictly Stock racing. The winner will receive a purse of $5,000, while $3,000 goes for runner-up and $2,000 will be awarded to the third-place finisher. Oxford’s usual payout for the division will begin with the fourth-place finisher receiving the usual first-place prize money.

Bonuses of up to $250 will be awarded for leading certain laps. Regular Oxford drivers will also receive bonus money, depending on their final finish.

Dozens of cars from throughout New England are expected to compete.

The front gate opens at 5 p.m. with the qualifying races scheduled for a 7 p.m. start. William’s family will be honored during a pre-race ceremony.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for juniors ages 6-12.
