LEWISTON – Chris Henderson pounded out four hits, including a double and a triple, and had two RBIs to lead Bessey Motors to a 5-4 victory over Gayton in American Legion baseball action Monday.

The game came down to the final play in the seventh inning. Gayton had runners on first and third with two outs when the runner at first attempted to steal second. The throw by catcher Russell Estes sailed into center field.

The runner at third attempted to take advantage of the error and tried to score on the play, but with thanks to a relay, the second baseman gunned the runner out at the plate, ending the game and Gayton’s bid to tie the game up.

Gayton’s offense was lead by Tyler and Ryan Turgeon who had two and three hits, respectively. Dustin Longchance took the loss for Gayton despite allowing only one earned run and striking out nine Bessey batters.

Joe Baker joined Henderson with multiple hits for Bessey, dealing out two singles. Andrew Stacey took the win with six strong innings, walking three and striking out nine.
