BANGOR – Mark Rogers went the distance, giving up just two hits and registering 16 strikeouts to lead Mt. Ararat to a 4-1 win over Brewer in the Eastern Class A championship game Tuesday.

Rogers, who was selected fifth overall in the Major Baseball draft by the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, threw 96 pitches, 68 which were strikes.

Mt. Ararat’s Chris Doherty and Todd Strong each had RBI singles in the fifth inning. Ben Davis scored the only run of the game for Brewer (16-3) in the sixth on a wild pitch by Rogers.

The run was just the second earned run Rogers has allowed in 63 innings pitched this season.

The Eagles (18-1) will face Western champ Deering (17-0) for the Class A title at Gorham High School at noon on Saturday.
