TURNER – Sam St. Hilaire pitched a complete-game three-hitter with nine strikeouts as Leavitt cruised to a 4-0 victory over Medomak Valley in a Eastern Maine Class A preliminary softball round Thursday.
The Hornets recieved multiple hits from Lindsay Sierra, Beth Burgess and St. Hilaire. Emily Havener was the starting pitcher for Medomak Valley.
Jay 7, Wiscassett 6
JAY – Bree Loon stuck out 13 and scattered four hits and walked two as Jay (15-1) defeated Wiscasset, 7-6, in a Western Class C softball quarterfinal Thursday.
The Tigers were led by Kaylee Demillo, two hits, and Jana Fettehoff, two hits and three RBIs.
Rachel Grey had three of the Redskins’ (9-8) four hits.
Brunswick 1, Lewiston 0
BRUNSWICK – Kathy Flanagan scored on an outfield error subsequent to a single by Michelle Fields for the only run of the game as Brunswick narrowly defeated Lewiston, 1-0, in an Eastern Class A softball quarterfinal Thursday.
In a classic pitchers’ duel, Lewiston (12-6) hurler Amanda Michaud recorded three strikeouts and held the Dragons to four hits, while Chelsea Blais struck out four and scattered three hits for Brunswick (15-2).
Michaud had two of the Blue Devils’ three hits, including a double.
Flanagan tallied a pair of singles for the Dragons.
G-NG 3, Gorham 2
GRAY – Dawn Ross scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning for the eventual game-winner as Gray-New Gloucester survived a 3-2 win over Gorham in a Western Class B softball quarterfinal Thursday afternoon.
Kelly Bregman had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning for the Patriots (15-2) before the Rams hit back with three singles and a pair of runs in a failed attempt to stay alive. Emily Baker and Olivia Ryan assisted the Patriot offense with a double each.
Georges Valley 4, Mt. Abram 1
THOMASTON – Brea Little had a two-out single in the first inning to plate a pair of runs as Georges Valley beat Mt. Abram 4-1 in a Western Class C softball quarterfinal Thursday.
After the first inning, Mt. Abram (9-9) pitcher Katie Walker settled down and kept the Buccaneers from scoring again until the fifth when Loralie Franklin belted a double to give Georges Valley (13-2) a 4-0 lead.
Sadie White was the only repeat hitter for the Roadrunners, going 2-for-4. Mt. Abram scored its lone run in the sixth inning.
Megan Watts fanned 11 batters while walking none to advance Georges Valley to the semifinals.
