LEWISTON – Friday Night Fights will feature several boxers from around New England when the seven-bout card begins at 8 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Center.

“I think the main thing is we are resurrecting boxing monthly,” said former two-time world champion and promoter Joey Gamache. “We invest money in this thing.

“We lost $3,000 the last time, but that’s OK. Being a former fighter, I’ve got to make sure these guys are well taken care of.”

Heavyweight Scott Frost from Leeds will be making his professional debut against Dave Wolmack of Philadelphia.

“He’s had 30 amateur fights. It’s kind of a comeback for him,” said Gamache. “He took some time off.”

Another heavyweight who is getting back into the ring and making his pro debut is a 35-year-old police officer from Berlin, N.H. P.J. Cyr, a two-time New England Golden Gloves Champion, will square off against Bilali Burns of Philadelphia.

“He’s done some training with us,” said Gamache.

Heavyweight Don Knight of Jay will also make make his pro debut against an opponent that has yet to be named.

In a battle of undefeated lightweights, Kevin Cruz (2-0) of Saco and Queens, N.Y., will face Yasin “The Assassin” Rashid (2-0) of Brooklyn, N.Y.

“Like they say, Somebody’s O’s have got to go,'” said Gamache. “That’s what it comes down to. You know Kevin Cruz has all the ability in the world, but he has been down. He’s been hurt.”

Ryan Gamache (1-0), who made his pro debut last month, takes on Thomas Coleman from Philadelphia.

“This is a whole new world; he is an 18-year-old kid,” said Joey Gamache of his nephew. “Every fight that is going to happen is a four-rounder.”

In a junior welterweight rematch, Gerald Gray goes head-to-head again with Ike Ezeji, who are both from the Bronx.

“This was a great fight from a guy (Ezeji) who was in trouble and pulled a four-round decision,” recalled Gamache.

Genaro Andujar makes another trip from the Bronx to face James Lowry of Philadelphia in a junior welterweight clash. According to Gamache, Andujar has lost nearly 20 fights, but recently beat an undefeated fighter.

“He’s (Lowry) a tough guy who has fought heavier guys,” said Gamache. “He’s come down in weight and thought this would be an advantage to him.”

In a cruiserweight clash, undefeated Dave Williams (3-0) of Philadelphia will be taking on an opponent that has yet to be named.

Tickets for the fight are $20 and can be purchased at Lisbon Street News and Victor News in Lewiston.
