OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Troy Clark of Lisbon High School captured the silver medal last Sunday at the World Cup trials in the 10-kilometer junior racewalk division to earn a spot on the U.S. national team.
The Lisbon senior will be one of three junior racewalkers to represent the U.S. at the World Cup championship in Naumberg, Germany, on Sunday, May 2.
Clark set a personal best in the 10K qualifying race with a time of 48 minutes, 25 seconds. Walkers from 26 nations are expected to compete at the World Cup championships.
Two other Maine walkers – Kevin Eastler and Ben Shorey – will compete at the World Cup in the men’s division.
Olympic hopeful Eastler placed third behind Olympians Tim Seaman and Curt Clausen to qualify for the five-man team in the 20K race. Shorey, an alternate on the 20K team after placing sixth, had already qualified for the 50K race.
