BRUNSWICK – In dreary conditions in Brunswick, the Bowdoin and Bates softball teams played the first half of a doubleheader Tuesday with the Polar Bears taking a 5-3 victory.

Game two was suspended in the second inning with Bowdoin leading 13-8 due to darkness and quickly deteriorating conditions.

Bowdoin scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and Erin Hanley tossed a complete game to lift the Polar Bears. Ginger Walsh took the loss for the Bobcats.

Endicott 6, USM 5

BEVERLY, Mass. – Heather Hatfield scored what proved to be the decisive goal with 6:58 to play to give the Endicott a 6-5 victory over Southern Maine.

Endicott jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first half on a pair of goals by Sarah Halsey and one from Laren Gibbons. USM struck back with goals from Emily Kirkland and Amanda Loomis to pull within one before Halsey recorded her third goal of the night. Melanie Fike’s goal with 2:24 to go in the first half made it 4-3 at the break.

The Gulls maintained the lead throughout the second half, twice taking a two-goal lead. The Huskies twice pulling within one, 5-4 and 6-5, on goals by Kirkland, but they could not get the equalizer.

Bowdoin 14, Bates 4

LEWISTON – Angela King scored three goals in the first half to send Bowdoin to a 14-4 victory over Bates.

The 16th-ranked Polar Bears (8-5) opened a 9-2 lead by halftime.

Senior Liz Lawler scored three unassisted goals for the Bobcats (7-7), who played their final home game of the season. Samara Khalique converted a pass from Becky Castle for Bates’ final goal.

Liz McNamara was credited with 14 saves for Bates.

Colby 17, Keene 4

KEENE, N.H. – Elizabeth Ghilardi scored four goals and had an assist to lead Colby to a 17-4 win over Keene State.

Ally King tied Ghilardi for top points honors with one goal and four assists. King, with 105 goals and 106 assists for 211 career points, is just seven points shy of becoming the all-time leading scorer for Colby.

Katie Trainor had three goals, while Katie Roberts and Becca Avrutin both chipped in with two goals and an assist.

. Kate Wheeler had one goal and one assist for the Mules.
