LEWISTON – The Black Bear Caravan will roll into Lewiston today, stopping at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee at 5 p.m.
Scheduled to appear in Lewiston are hockey player Greg Moore of Lisbon, a 2006 graduate of Maine who is now a member of the New York Rangers organization, athletic director Blake James, several members of the coaching staff and mascot Bananas the Bear.
The event, which is scheduled to last until 6:30 p.m., offers fans the opportunity to gather and meet the Black Bears in a local setting.
At each location fans will have a chance to meet the coaches, get autographs, as well as play interactive games with Black Bear student-athletes.
Caravan stops are free for all fans, and a barbeque dinner with soda will be provided, but space is limited. Please R.S.V.P. by calling (207) 581-1130.
Bates women’s soccer ranked 12th in poll
LEWISTON – The Bates College women’s soccer team is ranked 12th in the first Top 25 poll conducted by D3Kicks.com, a new website dedicated to Division III soccer.
The Bobcats, defending NESCAC champions, are one of three NESCAC teams in the Top 25, along with Tufts and Williams.
Bates returns nine out of 11 starters from the 2005 team that won its first NESCAC Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships. The Bobcats will be co-captained by seniors Meg Coffin and Becky Macdonald.
Jim Murphy enters his 13th season leading the women’s soccer team with a career record of 121-62-10. Bates starts the 2006 season with a game at Husson College on September 12. The Bobcats’ first home game will be September 23 against Connecticut College.
