LIVERMORE — The Planning Board has reviewed several samples of mass-gathering ordinances from other towns and has decided to model a proposed ordinance after Farmington’s ordinance and retrofit it to Livermore.
Besides Farmington’s, the board looked at ordinances from Newport, Sabattus, Gorham and Sebago, as well as the state’s mass-gathering law, board secretary Kurt Schaub said.
“We are primarily basing the draft we agreed to on Farmington’s, with a couple of adjustments making it specific to Livermore,” Schaub said.
Townspeople asked the board to put together a mass-gathering ordinance earlier this year.
The Planning Board will review the draft at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Town Office. Planners will presumably make a recommendation, Schaub said.
Farmington’s ordinance is “very, very good,” he said. “Its very thorough.”
Some of the ordinances reviewed health, welfare and public-safety concerns, but were weak in terms of municipal concerns such as impacts on roads, neighbors and property, he said — while others were just the opposite. Farmington’s ordinance seemed to strike a balance, he said.
