I am confused. Several days ago, Rep. Bruce Poliquin and the honorable Sen. Susan Collins voted to pass a tax bill that, according to the president of the United States, would be the biggest tax break in history for businesses. The president assured the public that the middle and lower class would be “rolling in dough” because businesses would be able to make investments in capital and labor.
Republican leaders in Maine are now saying that “$11 an hour is the breaking point.” Businesses cannot pay a decent living wage to their workers. The Maine State Chamber of Commerce says that businesses will start failing at $11 an hour?
So, what is it to be? “Rolling in dough” with the president’s new tax plan or failing businesses because they can’t pay a minimum wage of $11 an hour?
I am seriously confused. Can someone please explain?
