Snow will arrive in Maine just in time for the Monday evening commute, making roads slippery.

The snow will move in from the west Monday afternoon.

Up to 3 inches will accumulate, but it probably won’t be worth it to shovel.

Higher snowfall amounts are likely in the Maine hills and mountains.

The evening commute Monday should have just enough snow area wide to provide slippery travel on untreated roads.

The transition from frozen to freezing precipitation will take place Monday Night into Tuesday morning.

Snow will change to freezing rain and eventually rain during the course of the day Tuesday.

Freezing rain leading to light ice accumulations will be the issue for the Tuesday morning commute. That will be most pronounced in inland Maine and New Hampshire.

The coast will probably start the early morning hours Tuesday with a period of freezing rain as well.

The warmer air should win out, changing freezing rain to plain rain as the day go on.

That transition will take place along the coast first and slowly work inland.

Most of the area will have rain by the afternoon Tuesday.

Wednesday will be partly sunny and breezy with highs near 40.

A quick cool down will ensue with highs in the 20s on Thursday and Friday.
