CLEVELAND – Chien-Ming Wang shut down Cleveland for seven innings and outpitched C.C. Sabathia, whose lone mistake turned into a homer by Melky Cabrera, to help the New York Yankees end a three-game slide with a 1-0 win over the Indians on Sunday.

Wang (5-0) allowed four hits, struck out a season-high nine and joined Arizona’s Brandon Webb as the majors’ only five-game winners.

After the game, Yankees catcher Jorge Posada, who was inexplicably removed from the starting lineup minutes before the first pitch, said he’s going on the disabled list for the first time in his career with an arm problem.

Sabathia (1-4) pitched eight strong innings, giving up just four hits – one of them Cabrera’s one-out homer in the fifth inning.

Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore didn’t play because of a sore right ankle, ending the majors’ longest consecutive games streak at 382.

Athletics 4, Mariners 2

SEATTLE – Emil Brown had a broken-bat, two-run single in Oakland’s four-run eighth inning.

Seattle starter Felix Hernandez cruised through seven innings, giving up just four hits and striking out 10. But he could not escape trouble in the eighth.

Hernandez (2-1) walked Jack Hannahan on a 3-2 pitch to open the inning as the Safeco Field roof slowly closed with a light rain falling. Mark Ellis then doubled and Daric Barton walked on a 3-2 pitch to load the bases, and Brown dumped a single into left that ended Hernandez’s day.

Rangers 10, Twins 0

ARLINGTON, Texas – Vicente Padilla threw a seven-hitter for his third career shutout and Milton Bradley hit a three-run homer for Texas.

Padilla (3-2) struck out two, walked two and didn’t allow a runner past second in his first shutout with the Rangers.

Jason Botts and Josh Hamilton also homered, and Hamilton and Michael Young each had three hits for the Rangers, who had lost eight of nine.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Scott Rolen homered and drove in two runs, Alex Rios collected four hits and scored three times and Toronto ended a six-game losing streak.

Rios, who raised his average to .330, scored the go-ahead run in the fifth from first base on Rolen’s single to left. Rios was waved home when left fielder Jose Guillen threw to second base instead of hitting the cutoff man.

Rolen, who was activated Friday from the disabled list after fracturing his right middle finger in spring training, homered in the first and has four RBIs in three games.

White Sox 6, Orioles 1

CHICAGO – Paul Konerko homered twice and Jose Contreras pitched 6 2-3 innings to lead the White Sox to the win.

Hitting just .197 with three homers coming in, Konerko connected off Jeremy Guthrie (0-3) leading off the second and sixth innings. The teams split a doubleheader Saturday and finish the four-game series on Monday.

Dodgers 3, Rockies 2

LOS ANGELES – James Loney singled home the winning run in the 10th inning, and the Dodgers completed a three-game sweep.

It’s the first three-game winning streak of the season for Los Angeles under new manager Joe Torre, who used his 24th different lineup in 25 games as he continues to search for a consistent combination.

Mets 6, Braves 3

NEW YORK – Carlos Delgado turned boos into a standing ovation with his first two-homer game in almost a year, leading the Mets to the win.

New York knocked out John Smoltz after four innings in his first shaky outing of the season and got a three-hit game from backup catcher Raul Casanova.

Delgado came into the game in a 3-for-34 slump and hadn’t homered since April 8. He went 2-for-2 with two walks and turned in his first two-homer game since May 29 against the San Francisco Giants.

Pirates 5, Phillies 1

PITTSBURGH – Paul Maholm tossed a two-hitter, Nate McLouth hit two home runs and Pittsburgh avoided a three-game sweep.

Maholm (2-2) walked four and struck out two in his third career complete game.

Both of Philadelphia’s hits came in the fifth inning. Pat Burrell doubled with one out and scored on Eric Bruntlett’s single to center.

D-backs 2, Padres 1

SAN DIEGO – Brandon Webb outpitched Jake Peavy in a battle of the last two NL Cy Young Award winners, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 2-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Sunday.

Webb (6-0), the 2006 Cy Young winner, allowed just one unearned run and twice escaped bases-loaded jams before leaving after six innings. He became the first six-game winner in the majors and lowered his ERA to 1.98.

Cardinals 5, Astros 1

ST. LOUIS – Troy Glaus hit his first home run with St. Louis and Albert Pujols also went deep.

Glaus, who was acquired in an offseason trade that sent Scott Rolen to Toronto, entered the game leading the major leagues with the most RBIs without a home run. Glaus went 87 at-bats before hitting a 1-1 offering from Brandon Backe (1-3) to center field for his 16th and 17th RBIs to cap a four-run fifth inning.

Marlins 3, Brewers 2

MILWAUKEE – Wes Helms came through in just his fourth start of the year, leading off the 10th inning with a home run to lift Florida to the win.

Helms hit an 0-2 pitch off Seth McClung (1-1) about five feet over the left-field wall for his first home run since last Aug. 10.

Nationals 2, Cubs 0

WASHINGTON – John Lannan pitched four-hit ball for seven innings and Wily Mo Pena and Wil Nieves had back-to-back RBI singles in the second inning for the Nationals.

Lannan (2-2) struck out three, walked four and didn’t allow a hit until Ronny Cedeno singled to start the fifth. He matched a career high with his seven innings.

Luis Ayala and Jon Rauch each pitched a hitless inning to complete the shutout.

Rauch finished for his fourth save.

Ted Lilly (1-4), making his 200th start, gave up two runs and four hits in six innings for Chicago. He struck out seven and walked two.

Reds 10, Giants 1

SAN FRANCISCO – Edinson Volquez struck out a career-high 10 in seven innings, Brandon Phillips homered twice and Cincinnati roughed up Barry Zito.

Volquez (4-0) allowed one run and five hits to win his third consecutive start, and Ryan Freel’s two-run single keyed a six-run first inning for Cincinnati. Freel later doubled and scored as the Reds won consecutive games for the first time in more than two weeks.

Zito, winless in his first six starts for the first time in his career, gave up eight runs and walked three in only three innings.

Phillips hit solo home runs in the seventh and ninth, the fourth time in his career he’s had two homers in one game.
