ORONO (AP) – The UMaine football team will take the field against Florida State in 2009.

Maine athletic director Blake James said the Sept. 5 game will be at Tallahassee’s Doak Campbell Stadium, which seats more than 83,000. It will be the largest crowd ever to watch a Black Bears game.

In recent years, Maine has scheduled one game a season at a Football Bowl Subdivision school, including Nebraska, Boston College, Mississippi State, and Connecticut.

This year, the Bears will begin their schedule on Aug. 30 at Iowa.

Maine coach Jack Cosgrove says Florida State will pose an exciting challenge. He said the Maine football program has never backed down from a challenge and this will be no exception.

The Seminoles, who play in the Atlantic Coast Conference, are coached by Bobby Bowden, the all-time winningest coach in major college football.
