I write to express my full support for the re-election of Mayor Larry Gilbert.
I have known Gilbert since his first day as a police officer in 1969. He was truly dedicated. I recommended that he be promoted to the rank of detective. I was captain of detectives at the time, and he worked tirelessly under my command. He has always been honest and has excellent work and personal ethics.
He earned the respect of his co-workers and superiors. He ultimately became chief of police, U.S. Marshal, and associate director of the Maine Community Policing Institute at the University of Maine at Augusta during a 38-year career.
He is now doing an excellent job in Lewiston as mayor.
Lewiston residents need to keep him in office to work with the new City Council for the good of the city.
I urge voters to join me in re-electing Larry Gilbert.
Robert A. Soucy, Lewiston
