BRYANT POND — Iva R. Farrar, 91, of Bryant Pond, died peacefully at the home of her daughter, Diane York, on Oct. 21.
She was born on the family farm on Indian Pond in Greenwood, Dec. 7, 1917, the fourth child of Jesse Herbert and Linnie Morgan Ring. At age three, her family moved to Bryant Pond, where she attended elementary school and graduated from Woodstock High School in 1935.
In 1936, she started work at Stowell Silk Spool Co. from which she retired in 1977. On June 22, 1938, she married James Farrar, who she got to know when they were both actors in a play at the Grange. Together they spent 54 wonderful years hunting, fishing and berry picking at their camp in Grafton, raising and canning vegetables from their garden and enjoying their close knit family.
She leaves a daughter, Diane York and her husband, Clifford, of Bryant Pond; two granddaughters, Kimberly Dupuis and her husband, Steven, of Bethel and Jennifer Wyman of Lewiston; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Brown, Nathanael Wyman and Seth Dupuis; a sister-in-law, Helen Farrar; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1992; two sisters, Rowena Dunham and her husband, Clyde and Hilda Dragoon and her husband, Peter; two brothers, Merle Ring and his wife, Ruby and Clayton Ring and his wife, Eleanor; and a brother-in-law, Stanley Farrar.
Special thanks to Dr. Dieter Kreckel, the staff of Rumford Hospital and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, who cared for Iva during her short illness.
