BOSTON — Lewiston native Hilary Ann Walker will appear as Betty Parris in the Boston Opera Collaborative’s production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera “The Crucible.”

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 14-15 and Nov. 19-22 at the Church of the Covenant, 67 Newbury St.

A mezzo soprano, Walker is active in many organizations in Boston. Past roles include Hansel with Opera del West; L’enfant in “L’enfant et les sortileges” with MetroWest Opera; Clarina in “Il cambiale di matrimonio;” Ruggiero in “Alcina,” cover; Suor infermiera in “Suor Angelica;” and Third Spirit in “The Magic Flute,” all with the Boston Opera Collaborative. She is also auditions coordinator with the collaborative.

In 2007, Walker was a featured artist with Boston’s Guitar Festival and in “The Mikado” with the Bostonians. Before moving to Boston, she received a bachelor’s degree in music and Italian at Vassar College.

A 2002 Lewiston High School graduate, she was an officer and active in the school’s drama club for four years. She played Sarah Brown in “Guys and Dolls,” sang with the jazz and concert choirs and was a member of the Maine Allstate Chorus, 2000-2002. She was involved in a number of Community Little Theatre shows, notably as Oliver in “Oliver!,” Lily St. Regis in “Annie” and Lily Craven in “The Secret Garden.” She also participated in the All Student Theatre Project made up of students from Lewiston, Edward Little and Leavitt Area high schools.

Her mother, the late Judith Walker, taught in Auburn and was an active member of CLT, both as a performer and as a director. Her father, Robert Walker of Auburn, taught in Lewiston and was a CLT member as well.

Based on Arthur Miller’s play of the same name, “The Crucible” recounts the tragic consequences of a community that would rather raise hell than confront its own faults. More than 300 years after the Salem witch trials, this story of a town’s frenzy and a man’s struggle to regain his integrity still fascinates audiences around the world.
