HEBRON — The Hebron Academy Middle School recently went on an overnight trip to Acadia National Park.
The first stop was the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and its Observatory, which is the tallest public bridge observatory in the world at 420 feet. The group had lunch at Fort Knox and explored its many underground tunnels. There were also ocean stops along the way in Schoodic Point. The group also visited the Bunker’s Harbor Lobster Pound where Dana Rice told the group a bit about the lobstering life.
After eating pizza and taking an overnight rest, the next morning the group split in two and set off to hike up Gorham Mountain and bike around Eagle Lake in Acadia National Park.
“Students were amazed to see license plates in the parking lot at the base Gorham Mountain that were from all over the country. It began to dawn on them that Mt. Desert is very widely known for its beauty,” said English and science teacher Grace Drown.
The middle-schoolers made one last stop at Hebron Academy trustee Reeve Bright’s house in Ellsworth for a cookout before getting back on the road to home.
