Lucille M. Riker

1921 – 2009

SCARBOROUGH — Lucille M. Riker passed away Friday, Oct. 27, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough.

She was born in Berlin, N.H., on Nov. 22, 1921, the daughter of Gideon and Alice Croteau. She served in the U.S. Navy as a nurse from May 1944 to July 1951. She met and married her husband, William, in 1951, while stationed in Guam.

After moving to Lewiston, she continued her career in nursing until she retired in 1983.

She was active in the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, was an avid sports fan, loved to knit for her family and others and was especially famous for “Gramma Lu’s Chocolate Chip Cookies!”

She is survived by her children, Thomas Riker of Augusta, Michelle Bannister and husband, John, of Blue Hill, and son, Richard and his wife, Alison, of Cape Elizabeth; her grandchildren, Katrina McKinney and husband, Clint, of North Kennesaw, Ga., Troy Bannister of Bar Harbor, Travis Bannister of Portland, Gretchen Riker of Farmingdale, Dana, Carolyn, David, Meredith and Madelaine Riker of Cape Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Jeremiah Price (JP) McKinney of North Kennesaw, Ga.; her brother, Joseph Croteau and his wife, Patricia, of Greenville, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, William, in 1985.
