Donald E. Poulin

1929 – 2009

LEWISTON – Donald E. Poulin, 80, of Randall Road, Lewiston, died unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 29, at his home.

He was born in Auburn on April 14, 1929, a son of the late Armenien and Della (Lessard) Poulin.

He was married Feb. 22, 1952, to Noella Sirois, who predeceased him on July 7, 2004.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946 and after loyally serving for four years he was honorably discharged in 1950. During his time in the service he was awarded “The World War ll Victory Medal” and “The Navy Occupation Service Ribbon.”

He and Noella spent most of their 52 years of marriage raising their family in Lewiston.

He was employed at L&A Tire Co. for several years as a mechanic, specializing in front-end alignment. In 1979 he went into business for himself starting up “Don Poulin & Son Wheel Alignment” on Sabattus Street, which became known as “The Best Around.” He passed his knowledge and business on to his son, Donald, who continues his father’s tradition of being “The Best Around.”

He was a proud and faithful member of Holy Family Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 618, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post No. 158, Lisbon, VFW Post No. 9459 and the Pastime Club.

He enjoyed owning his own race car (56), being part of the pit crew and was especially proud of watching his son, Donald Poulin Jr., be the race car driver. He also enjoyed playing pool, as he participated in many tournaments, and was an avid NASCAR fan. He had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and snowmobiling, especially with family members and friends. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Donald Poulin Jr., and his wife, Dawna, of Greene; two daughters, Donna L. Waggoner and her husband, Paul, of Brunswick, and Debbie Nye and her husband, Derrick, of Greene; four grandchildren, Jamie and Jason Poisson, Jennifer Morgans and her husband, Eric, and Tyler Poulin; three great-grandchildren, Owen and Devon Poisson, and Marissa Morgans; his sister, Lorraine Poirier, whose husband Romeo (Chuck) recently passed away; his brothers, Raymond Poulin and his wife, Sarah, of Minot, and Richard Poulin and his wife, Trina, of Auburn.

He is also survived by his companion of the past few years, Donna Jordan.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his baby infant daughter, Marie; and his wife of 52 years, Noella.
