Boys’ Basketball
Coach: Mike Hathaway (second year)
Last year’s record: 5-14, lost in Eastern Class A preliminary
Returning letter winners: Seniors – Cam Griffin (6-3 point guard), Noah Poto (6-2 guard), Shawn Berry (6-3 forward); Juniors – Lucas Witham (6-1 guard), Tyler Allen (6-4 forward), Kyle Smith (5-11 guard); Sophomore – Jordan Hersom (6-2 forward, Tyler Walton (point guard).
Key losses: Doug Nash, Kolin Gauthier, Zach Caldwell.
Promising newcomers: Juniors – Matt Janosco, Zach Frost, Jason Fisher, Devin Long; Sophomore – Tim Dow.
Outlook: The Hornets move from Eastern A to Western B with a team that returns four starters from a brief tournament appearance. Griffin and Hersom were KVAC honorable mention all-conference, with Hersom and Allen named to the all-rookie team. Witham also made the all-star team at summer basketball camp. Poto is out until after the holidays while recovering from a torn ACL suffered over the summer. Leavitt’s youth and depth should help while the Hornets recover from a late start due to their football state title run.
Coach’s comment: “Once our offense comes around and we finds ways to score consistently, I think we will be a tough matchup for a lot of teams.” – Coach Mike Hathaway
