Christopher Dufour, and Jackie Oliveri rehearse a scene from “Hidden: A Gender,” playing this weekend at the First Universalist Church of Auburn. This provocative play, written by transgendered lesbian activist Kate Bornstein, juxtaposes the stories of two
real people dealing with gender identity. The first, Herman (aka Kate), describes his transition from life as a man to a woman; the second tells of Herculine, a young woman living in Victorian France who physically develops into a male, and is forced by an unforgiving society to reidentify her gender. Shows are 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7 and 2 p.m., Nov. 8. Tickets are $10 and can be reserved at 783-0461. First Universalist Church of Auburn is located at169 Pleasant St.  Due to mature content, youth must be accompanied by an adult. Each performance will be followed by a discussion panel on gender identity. EqualityMaine is sponsoring this presentation.
