Irene M. Austin
1930 – 2009
AUBURN – Irene M. Austin, 79, of Dixfield, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Clover Health Care Manor in Auburn, where she had been a resident since 2005.
She was born on July 16, 1930, in Rumford, the daughter of Angus and Mary (Cormier) Trembley. After attending school she went to work at the Oxford Paper Mill in the accounting department handling payroll.
Irene enjoyed traveling and cared for her parents until the time of their deaths. She then moved in with her sister, Ida, and resided in Mexico for many years.
On May 8, 1985, she married Wallace Austin and they resided in Dixfield. Together they traveled in their fifth wheel and saw much of the United States, all but six states. They also enjoyed their motorcycle and snowmobiles. They were members of the Pin Down Bowling League, enjoying the competition, and also the Good Sam Club.
Irene was a member of the Dixfield Senior Citizens with whom she enjoyed the trips and social meals. She also was a former communicant of St. Theresa’s in Mexico. She loved her country western and big band music.
She is survived by nieces and nephews and their families; a stepson, Gary Austin and his companion, Tracy Johnson, of Cassville, Wisc.; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Duguay and her husband, George, of Turner; five step-grandsons, Neil Austin and his wife, Kristen, of Winslow, Jonn Austin of Peru, Joshua Austin of Cassville, Wisc., Christopher Duguay and his companion, Phyllis Wing, of Turner, and Gregory Duguay of Turner; a step-granddaughter, Kathryn Austin of Peru; and six step-great-grandchildren, Brenden Duguay of Leeds, Elijah, Asa and Olivia of Winslow, and Sierra and Maranda Austin of Lewiston.
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, sisters and a stepdaughter-in-law, Elizabeth Austin of Lewiston.
Irene’s family wishes to thank Clover Health Care Manor Section 3 in Auburn for the care they provided her during her time there.
