LEWISTON — The Marine Corps League Central Maine Detachment will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Multi-Purpose Center, Birch Street. Plans for Christmas activities will be discussed and members are asked to pay their dues.

The detachment has been very busy and will be until Christmas. They celebrated the Marine Corps birthday at the Oxford American Legion in Oxford with the Western Maine Detachment. A short meeting was held prior to the celebration and a moment of silence was held for all deceased veterans and also for the recent Fort Hood disaster. The event was followed by a hot meal after the cutting of the Marine Corps cake, with one piece going to the oldest Marine and one piece to the youngest.

On Nov. 11, the detachment attended a memorial service at the Lewiston Armory, followed by a service at Veterans Park. Some members also attended a memorial program at The Meadows in Greene.
