NORWAY — Shirley Anne Dayon Dunn passed away Monday, Feb. 5, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
Shirley was born Nov. 3, 1936, in Rumford. Her parents were Wilfred and Emelia (Richard) Dayon and she was one of six children. Her family lived in Mexico, where she attended school and graduated from Mexico High School.
In 1957, Shirley married Leon Dunn, and they moved to Andover, where they raised two sons, Michael and Glenn, who were her pride and joy. While caring for her family, Shirley worked at Andover Wood Products for 20 years and also volunteered for the Pineland Ski Club of Andover.
She devoted her life to helping nurture and raise her three granddaughters, Dariane, Jade and Dorcey, and watching over family members in need.
In 1991, Shirley left her home in Andover, moved to Milton Township and focused her time and energy on helping her son, Mike, and his family. She lived in Milton Township for 25 years, and during that time met her longtime friend and companion, Charlie Thornton.
Shirley is survived by her son, Michael Dunn, and his wife, Thea, of Milton Township; her three granddaughters, Dariane (Dunn) Shaw and her husband, Brian, Jade (Dunn) Costello and her husband, Joseph, and Dorcey (Dunn) Cleveland, and her husband, Randy; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Vernice (Dayon) Collette, Robert Dayon, Ronnie Dayon and his wife, Gloria; sister-in-law, Doris Dayon; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Glenn A. Dunn; a sister, Dorothy (Dayon) Garrett; a brother, Hector Dayon; a sister-in-law, Joyce Dayon; a brother-in-law, Raymond Perry; a brother-in-law, Eddy Collette; and a niece, Sue Holt.
Shirley believed that the world is a better place when we help others, and she showed this throughout her lifetime. She loved and supported the work of the Hope Association in Rumford.
