LAKE LOUISE, Alberta (AP) – Austria’s Andrea Fischbacher battled windy sub-zero conditions Wednesday to top a training run for the first World Cup women’s downhill of the season.

Fischbacher completed the 2.9-kilometer course in 1 minute, 51.73 seconds.

Spain’s Carolina Ruiz Castillo had the second-best time, finishing in 1:52.28. Slovenia’s Petra Robnik and Austria’s Marlies Schild tied for third. Schild won the opening two slaloms of the season.

“I haven’t trained so much downhill in the last month, mostly slalom,” she said. “I’m surprised by my performance today, but the downhill was something I liked to race before I had some knee injuries.”

Downhills are scheduled Friday and Saturday, and a super-giant slalom is set for Sunday.
