HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Ryan Callahan and Craig Weller each scored two goals as the Hartford Wolf Pack ended a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the Portland Pirates Wednesday night.
Callahan’s power-play goal 2:05 into the third period gave the Wolf Pack (2-6-0-0) their first regulation victory of the season. Their other win came in a shootout. Callahan put the Wolf Pack ahead 1-0 lead on a rebound of Dwight Helminen’s shot at 4:04.
The Pirates tied it 70 seconds later when Curtis Glencross deflected in Bruno St. Jacques’ shot.
Weller’s short-handed goal gave the Wolf Pack a 2-1 lead at 8:42, but Pierre Parenteau tied it again when he beat Steve Valiquette (31 saves) on a power at 1:05 of the second period.
The Pirates took their only lead on Stanislav Chistov’s first goal with 1:37 left in the period, but Weller tied it a third time 42 seconds later.
Michael Leighton had 24 saves for the Pirates (6-3-0-1), who lost their third in a row after a six-game winning streak.
