The Lewiston Auburn Children’s Foundation has begun awarding annual grants to local nonprofits. Liza Dimitri, vice president of the foundation, recently visited with Maggie Soule, director of the Park Avenue BackPack Program, to award a grant for $2,000 to the program. The program provides children with healthy, easy-to-prepare food during weekends and school vacations. Good Shepherd Food Bank partners with Park Avenue Elementary to discreetly provide children with bags filled with whole grains, fruits, vegetables and protein. Since 2010, the BackPack Program has grown to reach over 1,000 children and their families.
